would you buy a Zero as your only motorcycle?

Zero Motorcycles are undeniably cool, with ridiculous torque and instant acceleration, but the price-to-range ratio is hard to ignore. The SR/S I rode was a blast, but at $20K+ with a highway range of 60-70 miles, it makes you question if it’s a practical choice for anything beyond city riding.

If you already own a gas-powered tourer, adding a Zero for commuting or quick city runs makes sense. But as your only bike? That’s a tougher call. While most daily rides might not need more range, it’s those longer trips where you’ll feel the limitation.

Are EV motorcycles still too limited for most riders, or do you think the tech and infrastructure will catch up soon?

I love what Zero is doing for electric motorcycles, but as an only bike? That range is still a dealbreaker. 60-70 miles of highway riding before needing a recharge means you’ll have to plan every longer ride carefully, which kind of defeats the freedom of motorcycling. Until fast charging becomes more common and range improves, I’d keep a gas bike for longer trips and use a Zero as a second bike for commuting or weekend rides.

EV motorcycles are improving, but range and charging remain big hurdles. For now, they’re best as city bikes. Of course tech will catch up, but it'll take time.
